Kamiran's advice

When a garment needs altering or repairing, Kamiran takes care of it. He takes one garment at a time and looks for the solution that works best. Often the solution is something quite different from what the customer had in mind.

Come with the problem, not the solution. Many people describe what they think needs doing, and sometimes there is a simpler way that gives a better result. Show us the garment and say what bothers you, and we will suggest.

Alterations

What our tailors do

The work is done by our own tailors in the shop, not sent on.

  • Trouser hemming. The most common job we take in. The original hem is kept where the garment allows it, which shows on jeans and on suit trousers.
  • Zipper replacement. Jackets, trousers, bags and covers. It is usually the slider that has failed rather than the teeth, but both are replaced together because they wear at the same rate.
  • Lining replacement. A worn-through lining in a jacket or coat is replaced in full. It is a bigger job than it looks, and it is worth doing on a garment with a good outer shell.
  • Jeans mending. Holes at the crotch and worn pocket edges are repaired with reinforcement from the inside.
  • Curtain alterations. Shortening and hemming ready-made curtains, and sewing to measurement.

What we cannot do: a garment can generally be let out by about one size, depending on how much fabric sits in the seam allowance. Where there is none, there is nothing to work with, and we say so.

Alterations that last

Repairing beats replacing.

A garment that fits gets worn. One that does not sits in the wardrobe. Our tailors work on both – the everyday repair that keeps something in use, and the alteration that turns a decent garment into one you reach for.

Alterations and repairs of clothing qualify for the RUT deduction, and we apply it directly to the invoice. Made-to-measure production, such as curtains, does not qualify.

Frequently asked

What people ask us.

How do we drop things off with you?
Three ways, and you get everything back the same way: at our store on Krogabäcksvägen 12 in Nya Hovås, through your home service visit, or at one of our pick-up/drop-off points at more than 70 workplaces around Gothenburg. Bulky items such as large carpets are best brought to the store.
How long does an alteration take?
How long an alteration takes depends on the work. You get an estimate when you drop the garment off, and we contact you as soon as it is ready.
Do we need an appointment?
No, you do not need an appointment. Come by the store during opening hours and we will take a look at the garment right away. If a fitting is needed we do it on the spot.
Does RUT apply to tailoring?
The RUT deduction, the Swedish tax relief for household services, applies to tailoring when clothes are altered or repaired. It does not apply to new production, such as curtain sewing. We deduct it directly on the invoice.
Do you sew curtains?
Yes, curtains and other made-to-measure sewing. Bring measurements and fabric to the store, or start by asking us for advice.
